Police have charged a local man they say was impaired when he crashed a vehicle here and then fled the scene.
On June 27 at about 8:05pm Wellington County OPP received a 911 call from a motorist in Wellington North Township who was following the driver of a vehicle that was allegedly weaving erratically on Wellington Road 14 and then crashed on Line 2.
“The witness observed the male driver exit the vehicle and run into a field,” police stated in a press release. “A short time later a female driving a pick-up truck attended the accident scene, picked up the male and quickly sped away.”
Robert Wilson, 21, of Wellington North, was charged with impaired driving, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and driving with an open container of liquor. He is to appear in Guelph court on Aug. 12.
NORTH PERTH – On June 30 shortly after 1pm, Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a collision at the intersection of Perth Road 140 and Line 90, southwest of Teviotdale.
Police say westbound Chevrolet pickup truck on Concession 8 entered the intersection of Perth Road 140 at a high rate of speed, narrowly missing other vehicles.
“The pickup lost control in the intersection leaving the roadway and impacting onto a property on the northwest corner of the intersection. The impact caused the truck box cap to come off,” police stated in a press release.
“The truck spun around, leaving the scene in a northbound direction on Perth Road 140. A short time later police located the vehicle as well as the male driver at a residence in Mapleton Township.”
The driver was arrested and transported to the Wellington OPP detachment in Teviotdale for breath tests.
Kevin Hill, 51, of Mapleton Township, was charged with dangerous operation of motor vehicle, impaired driving, care or control of a vehicle with more than 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. He is to appear in Listowel court on Aug. 24.
In the above incidents, the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
